The Director of Legal, Governance, Company Secretary and DPO is an essential senior leadership role during the scaling phase of our organisation. We have a significant expansion strategy and we need an executive level candidate with significant housing and legal experience to help us navigate our next steps. The role is initially offered as a contractor position at a competitive day rate.

In this role, you will be a credible executive leader who will be accountable for Storm Housing Groups governance, legal and GDPR compliance – assuming the role of Data Protection Officer.  The role will also function as a company secretary to our board and committees.​

You will have the ability to communicate at all levels of our organisation with the experience of ensuring Storm Housing Groups maintains a strong governance framework. The successful candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail and a strong understanding of the wider organisation/housing market.​

This is an exciting time to join Storm Housing Group (SHG) and we are looking for individuals who are ready to disrupt the housing market in England.​

Job responsibilities:

  • Monitors our compliance with governance requirements including but not limited to:
    • Annual board performance and effectiveness
    • RSH Regulatory standards and returns
    • Board training timetable (Providing training where appropriate)
    • Code of governance adherence
    • Effective Risk management
    • Monitoring legislation changes
    • Corporate Health and Safety compliance
    • Data protection officer – ensuring adherence to GDPR
  • Company Secretarial duties including managing and administering our board, committee and shareholder meetings.
  • Supporting and advising the board – ensuring their terms of office, handbook, training, succession and performance appraisals are successfully managed.
  • Preparing minutes for meetings, note-taking, recording actions and tracking progress including liaising with internal stakeholders to close actions in-between Board meetings.
  • Prepare, maintain and report on the Governance and Compliance strategy that will provide governance & company secretarial input into corporate planning and reporting.
  • Identification and effective management of strategic and operational risks – developing a risk awareness culture and a risk assurance framework.
  • Ensure appropriate insurance policies are in place.
  • Develop and maintain compliance with a Governance and Compliance management system to ensure the Governance & company secretarial team is satisfying the corporate requirements for which it is responsible.
  • Communicate effectively with our investors on SHG’s overall compliance with governance.
  • Ensure that there is effective management of allocated team budgets and costs, as required.

We’re looking for someone who has: 

  • A relevant degree or equivalent level qualification, or significant relevant experience.
  • Extensive housing sector experience at executive level gained in governance, legal and company secretarial roles.
  • Vast experience communicating at all levels, including the gravitas to communicate effectively at a board/executive level.
  • Significant audit experience both internally and externally.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and delivery tracking.
  • Effective note-taker.
  • An eye for detail but able to see the bigger picture.
  • Ability to translate complex issues into user friendly materials and communications.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a number of challenging, time sensitive deliverables at the same time.
